 Winning Over Temptation

Anyone who has tried to break free from the harmful use of a substance or an addictive habit understands temptation.

Jesus knows best of all how difficult it is to deal with temptation.  He invites us to talk to Him today and to ask for His help.

Because he himself [Jesus] suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Hebrews 2:18

Heavenly Father,  How many times these days do we find ourselves dejectedly asking once again, "How can I win over temptation and turn my life around?"  You promise a way forward for us.  You promise to help us and to give us victory over temptation as we turn our will and our lives over to Your care.

In all these things we are more than conquerors

through him who loved us.

Romans 8:37

Thank You Jesus for showing us the way; for coming to earth, taking on human flesh, and experiencing our suffering and temptation so You could identify with us.

Even though You faced many difficult moments and challenges You never gave into temptation because You never doubted Your Heavenly Father’s care or  power to work out His plan in Your life.

And we thank you now that Jesus, You have compassion for us in our weaknesses.  We invite You to be Lord of our lives, to fill us again with Your Holy Spirit who gives us the power to conquer temptation.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable

to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one

who has been tempted in every way, just as we are –

yet he did not sin.

Hebrews 4:15

Help us to be prayerful, asking You to help us to be conscious of what is helpful or what might be harmful.

Help us to be practical in our everyday living. Give us good ideas for ways to avoid empty and unstructured time that can easily make us vulnerable to temptation.

Help us to eat well, exercise, get sleep, schedule events, do kind things, make reasonable plans and live in the discipline of each plan.

Thank you for the power of Your Holy Spirit to withstand temptation and give us the will and the desire to do what pleases you. Amen

It’s great to know that in God’s power we can overcome temptation.  Let’s live in that freedom today.  Have a great day.
