Hungry and Thirsty

Thursday March 23, 2023

We all feel hungry sometimes, probably more often than we wish. What’s your favourite “go to” item in the fridge or cupboard when that, “I’d like a little something” feeling creeps in?

It’s interesting that the experts tell us that we are more often thirsty when we think we are hungry and if we’ll get ourselves a drink, we can avoid that waist bloating snack.

Spiritually speaking, God wants us to recognize our true hunger and come to Him for the good things we need to satisfy the craving.

The eyes of all look to you in hope; you give them their food as they need it.  When you open your hand, you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness.

Psalm 145:15-17

What is the biggest problem that God identifies that keeps us from being filled with good things?

He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands.

Luke 1:53

Our own sense of self- sufficiency and our being satisfied with “unhealthy spiritual junk food,” so to speak, keeps us from being hungry for the good food God wants to provide for us.

Loving God, we are grateful that You are a generous God who is willing to open Your hand and provide all the good things we need in order to be fully satisfied.

Forgive us for our arrogance and our stupidity when we allow ourselves to be distracted by the bits and pieces around us that seem good but are just like empty calories that do our system more harm than good.

Thank You for Your promise to bless us as we seek what is just and right. We open our hearts to You to receive all that You are waiting to give us.

You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights. For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.

Psalm 36:8-9

Help us to feast on Your Word and drink from your river of delights today.  Amen

Let’s enjoy the good things God is giving us.  Have a great day.
