Lettting The Love Of God Change Us

Sunday March 5, 2023

March 5 - Lent 2 Shared Prayers

This is the second Sunday in our 40 day journey of Lent - heading towards Easter.  I don’t know what you are doing today but if everything goes to plan, when you are reading this Evelyn and I will be conducting chapels in our local prison with women in several units.

Part of what we’ll be reflecting on and praying to experience today will be this:

… that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:17-19

It’s not enough to know words that tell us that God loves us and that His love is better than we can ever imagine it to be.  We need that love to fill our hearts so we are rooted and grounded in all that we need to live well today.

And so we pray, loving God that You will dwell in our hearts.  Holy Spirit help us to have the faith that hangs onto God’s love through thick in thin, through what we understand and don’t understand, through what we like and through what we with would wish only be happening to our worst enemies.

Along with Paul who gave us this prayer in the Bible, we pray that we will:

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Ephesians 3:19

Come in power in each of our lives, Holy Spirit, in these brief moments and help us experience this amazing love of God.  We welcome Your love.  We welcome Your presence.  We welcome Your wisdom.  We make space for what You want to do in us right now.

Make us complete.  Fill us with all the fullness and power that only comes from God.  I’m not sure we even know what we are asking for when we say those words but it is what God wants to do in us so we want that.

O love of God, how rich and pure.  How measureless and strong.  It shall forevermore endure … the saints and angels song.
