Did I Do Good?
DID I DO GOOD?
Little children sometimes ask the question, “Did I do good?” They’ve tried to do something and they are looking for affirmation and acceptance. It’s just a joy to let them know how well they did just because they did their best.
I want to “do good” don’t you?
John Wesley said this about doing good:
Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can. John Wesley
God is our first example of doing good. The goodness of His character is always expressed in His good actions.
You are good, and you do good things. Teach me your laws. Psalm 119:68
God’s description of good is not complicated. We can know it and follow it today.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.Micah 6:8
Biggest challenge for most of us in doing good is probably just that we get so busy and so preoccupied with our own thoughts, plans, and activities that we don’t take time to observe what’s going on in the lives of others and take kind and meaningful action. God calls that kind of neglect sin.
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:17
And so I thought we could take that quote from John Wesley and let it be our prayer today.
God, please help us today to:
Do all the good we can,
by all the means we can,
in all the ways we can,
in all the places we can,
at all the times we can,
to all the people we can,
as long as ever we can.
John Wesley
Let’s have a good day doing good.
