Being Available To Meet Needs

Tuesday June 27, 2023

Being available – available to meet the needs of others around us.  What does that look like?  What does that ask of us, especially during these challenging days of rising interest rates, inflation and sky high costs for everything whether it’s housing, or food, or energy?

Of course it’s not our responsibility to meet every need we see around us but as we’ve often said, we do need to ask God for discernment and generous hearts so we recognize where we are meant to serve and provide but not be those who rescue and codependently enable others to live as helpless victims.

God has a way forward for everyone who is truly willing to be led by Him.  God will help all of us to be creative and kind in the service we give to others.  This honours God.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Isaiah 6:8

I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Romans 12:1

So today, we pray to simply be available to fulfill God’s agenda, with open and willing hearts to hear the plans He has for us and to follow His directions.

Heavenly Father, we want to be available to do what we can, what we ought, what You have in mind for us to do today that will help others around us and demonstrate Your kind heart.

Our schedules are packed and our resources seem thin but all is not as it seems to us.  We want Your view so our time, our finances, and our abilities are given to the very best purposes today. Help us to take the time and focus to hear that beautiful quiet voice of Your Holy Spirit as He puts a thought in our heads or heart so we just know what the right thing is for right now.

You are growing us and stretching us and training us and there is more that we can be and do than we know.  We just need to be faithful to do what we can and You’ll direct us to the right people in the right place at the right time.

If you could use uneducated self-centered fishermen in Your time on earth to be part of Your movement to turn the world upside down and change life across the face of the earth like never before, then You certainly can do something useful with our little lives today too.

Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.  Mark 1:17-18

So Lord, we want to know Your will and follow Your direction today.  You know what’s best for us.  Once again, when you ask the question as You did to Isaiah, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” I pray You will give us the courage and generosity and faith to say, “Here am I send me.” Amen
