I Am Who God Says I Am

June 13 – We are Who God Says We Are

We are created by God, created in God’s image – every one of us – black, white, brown, male, female.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

With the Psalmist we affirm that every one of us is also precious to God, made with intricate detail and of immense value.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit them together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it.

Psalm 139:13-14

I love the worship song that reminds us that “I am who You say I am” and that “In my Father’s house there’s a place for me – and that “me” is persons of every from every ethnic group, country, and neighbourhood.

Lord, we pray blessing and healing on all our brothers and sisters who experience the pain of prejudice today.  So many of us in majority groups just don’t know the depths of the pain and the fear so many have experienced and the insecurity they’ve had to endure.

We pray today that each of us will enter into the identity that You prepared for each one of us when You created us – a person of dignity and honour – oh yes, sinful and in need of a Saviour – but a person beloved by You.

Help us today to live as sons and daughter of the King, safe in Your love, generous because we know the resources of heaven belong to us, and compassionate for all – particularly those who are considered outsiders by others today.

And in it all would You help us to remember who we are – lost and broken people but those whom the Highest King welcomes to come and be part of His family.

Who am I that the highest King would welcome me?

I was lost but He brought me in,

Oh His love for me.  Oh His love for me

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed

I'm a child of God, Yes I am

Free at last, He has ransomed me, His grace runs deep

While I was a slave to sin Jesus died for me

Yes He died for me

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed,

I'm a child of God.  Yes I am

In my Father's house there's a place for me

I'm a child of God, Yes I am

I am chosen, not forsaken.  I am who You say I am

You are for me, not against me

I am who You say I am

I encourage you to take a few minutes and play the video “Who You Say I Am” and as you listen, use it to bless those who are wounded and shaken by racial prejudice.  It’s time to humbly offer our hands to our brothers and sisters of colour and together look towards the Lamb of God who died on the cross for all of us who is now seated on the throne.  With those from every nation, tribe, people, and language let’s stand in solidarity and proclaim:

“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

Revelation 7:10

Because – nothing else matters.  Nothing else has eternal value.  Nothing else is of God.

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20
