When To Wait and When To Move

Friday June 2, 2023

I’m grateful to live in a place where there are many parks and trails to visit.  Often when I go to a little park at the bottom of a ravine near here my first visit is up to the bridge and a look to see if there are any turtles sunning on the rocks.  And when I visited a few days ago, there they were.

They often congregate together on those two rocks.  There were 2 on each rock when I got there but I didn’t get my camera going quickly enough to get that.

It’s very soothing and quieting to my soul to pause and watch them. They aren’t in a hurry,  In fact, many times when we go there they never move from the time we arrive, go for a walk up the trail, and come back.

Those turtles aren’t moving for any of us.  In their own good time, when they get ready to eat probably, they’ll move along.

They remind me of these good words

Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

Psalm 33:20-22

So these guys are a good lesson to me to hang around God’s goodness and then jump in at the right time to enjoy all that He’s providing.

Ah but there’s more because this time around all 4 of those turtles moved.  As I said, I missed the movement on a couple but when it was right for them, off they went.  They remind me about this:

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance

2 Peter 3:8-9

Loving God, You do what is right at just the right time  We may think like we are waiting forever and You are not acting but You are and in Your waiting is a heart that wants the best for the most number of people.

Give us grace today, we pray, trust You with the times and seasons of our lives. With the writer of this Psalm we affirm:

I am trusting you, O Lord. I said, “You alone are my God; my times are in your hands.

Psalm 31:14

So, let’s keep a restful heart in God’s presence and wait for Him to act on our behalf in exactly the right time.  Have a great day.
