Courage

Wednesday July 5, 2023

What feels like a challenge to you today?  Where are you sensing the need for courage to face and deal with something.    God promises He will give us the courage we need to take care of those kinds of things, whether they are everyday responsibilities, or more serious issues.

But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.  I praise God for what he has promised.  I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?

Psalm 56:3-4

In the Bible we read of a young man named Gideon who was hiding from the enemies of his people (Judges 6).  He was afraid to be seen at his workplace where he sifted wheat because he knew his enemies would seize the wheat from him if they knew he had it.

The angel of the Lord visited Gideon and called him a mighty warrior and told him to go in the strength of the Lord and save his people from their enemies.

Gideon doubted the Lord’s word and said all kinds of things like:  that his family was the weakest of his clan and he was the smallest in his family.

Now fortunately, in spite of how fearful Gideon felt, he was obedient to the Lord’s instructions and became the mighty warrior the Lord had said he would be.

We can be all that God says we can be and He will even give us the courage to make a good effort when we feel incapable.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

Thank you God that even though we may feel weak and fearful, You are with us.  One day at a time, in the ordinary events of our lives, we ask You to  teach us Your ways and lead us in the paths You have directed for our feet.

We dare to let go of our fears today because God, You  promise to give us the strength and courage we need to do what You are asking us to do.

With Your help we can overcome all challenges, from within and without, and live life to the full, as You intend.  When we are afraid, we will continue to trust in You.  Amen
