If we follow God’s plan on our journey of life we need not be fearful when we encounter some storms. God’s instructions are reliable. His unfailing love keeps us at peace on our journey and His wisdom guides us to a safe and successful destination.
Jesus said: “Anyone who listens to My teaching and obeys Me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against the house, it won’t collapse, because it is built on rock”.
Matthew 7:24-25
To live wisely, particularly during stormy times, we need to develop a spirit of humility which says to God, “I don’t know what is best for me today but I’m willing to learn. I’m willing to change my thinking process and practice new behaviours which You are teaching me.”
Self-help books can provide some benefit in understanding ourselves, our family of origin, and some natural tendencies that go along with our personality. However, it’s important to remember that through His word in the Bible, God reveals the way to the best life possible.
Anything that contradicts principles written in the Bible is nothing more than “limited worldly wisdom”. It would be most helpful for us to set aside this inaccurate worldly wisdom in the same way we have set aside other lies and misconceptions that we recognize as harmful.
Today is a new opportunity for us to learn the difference between what we think, what society thinks, and what is true because God said it. Basing our lives on God’s truth is the sure foundation for success and peace in life no matter what storms we may encounter.
Gracious God, we don’t know what is best for us today but we are willing to learn.
We are willing to think new thoughts and practice new behaviours which You are teaching us. It’s not always easy to start new habits but we trust You to give us the will and the strength to do so.
Help us to listen intently to what You are saying and quickly put into practice all that we learn. Amen
Let’s follow God’s reliable guidance today and find a safe and sure way through our storms.
