Longing For Security

Sunday July 23, 2023

Listen to these lovely comforting words that someone prayed and which we can borrow and use ourselves with great confidence today.  We say to God:

I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.

Psalm 63:8

As humans we have a need for security in many forms, security within our own family, security about who we are inside our own heads, security of our position within a group, security in having a place to call home, security from any type of threat to our physical body, and any other thing we may see as a threat to our well-being.

Lack of anything we consider essential, makes us feel insecure.  What a great relief it is to learn that security is not provided by our circumstances, but by God alone.  With this understanding we can learn how to live in the security of God’s care.

Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

1 Chronicles 29:12

As children of God, we can live confidently each day and sleep peacefully each night in the certain knowledge that we are safe and secure in the care of our Heavenly Father.  I love these words:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Psalm 121:1-4

We’re so grateful, Heavenly Father, that when we put our hand in Yours, You hold us secure.  We feel our security threatened on many sides, for sure, but with Your promise to watch over us and to give us what we need in order to be successful, we can face today with confidence.

As we journey with You today help us to keep our eyes firmly fixed on You, for You alone are the source of our security.  Amen

Well, that brings a smile to my heart.  How about yours?  We are secure in God’s care.  Let’s enjoy that today.
