Revive Me

Tuesday July 11, 2023

Whether it’s hot muggy days of summer or dreary days of what seem like the endless fall rains, I often experience the need for being revived.

Recently in one section of Psalm 119 that I was reading that two word prayer, “Revive me” showed up three times.

If we’ve been sick or missed some sleep or had to work hard and long we experience the need for reviving – to regain strength or energy, just a sense of life for the moment.

Such lovely prayers today from the Psalmist who was obviously experiencing some kind of challenge or injustice - “Plead my cause and redeem me.  Revive me according to Your Word.”  He was feeling vulnerable and so was asking for God’s tender mercies to revive Him.

What struck me as I read these verses though was that each of the “Revive me” prayers was followed by an “according to …” and included “Your word, Your judgments, Your lovingkindness.”

I’ve asked this question of myself and here in these videos many times but I think it’s something we need to do an inventory around many times and allow God to sort us out.

Do we trust God’s ways for us to be good for us and to actually revive us when we are worn down and vulnerable?

Are we willing to have God do things in our lives according to His knowledge, His Word, and with lovingkindness?

Well God, there are many of us who experience the need for physical, mental, and emotional reviving today.  Life does wear us down and make us vulnerable in so many ways.

We’re grateful that we can just come to You and ask You to revive us.  We obviously don’t always know what that needs to look like but You do and so with humility and trust we look to You today and ask You to revive us according to Your knowledge, Your word, and Your lovingkindness.

We open our hearts to receive what You are giving.  We take time, even a few moments right now, to bring what’s going on in us to You so we know we’ve intentionally invited You to work in us.  You don’t force Your way into our affairs but You are just waiting for an open invitation.  That’s what we are offering You in this moment.

Come Holy Spirit and revive us.  Fill us with the energy and love of God.  We know that as You do that, we will definitely experience reviving.  Amen

Well let’s do that.  Let’s let God revive us.  Have a great day.
