Amitting Stinking Thinking

 Stinking Thinking

Today and tomorrow we want to think and pray about our thinking because we know that our words and actions are often the direct result of what we think and feel.  If we want to speak and act well, we first need to think and desire well.

The recovery movement has coined the phrase “stinking thinking” and it’s not just thoughts about destructive life habits that are stinking thinking.

We’ve spoken about this many times but it bears repeating, I think as one of the most prevalent ways we get involved in “stinking thinking” is when we think we are on our own and that no one, not even God, cares about us.

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can mere mortals do to me?”

Hebrews 13:5b-6

God invites us to the peace and security of living in the truth that He truly does care for us.  Our part is to acknowledge God's truth and obediently follow His principles in all our affairs.  As we do this, we will come to experience the peace and security that God promises.

The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life.

Psalm 121:5-7

We’re so grateful, God, that we are not alone in our journey today.  Not only do you promise to accompany us throughout the day but You have also promised to be our helper.

While we’d rather not face challenging things, we know we will, whether it happens today or tomorrow and so to know that You are already in our future preparing a good way forward for us as You watch over our life is just brilliant.

Day or night, good times or tough times help us to remember that we are not alone and that there is a power greater than ourselves working on our behalf.  Give us courage and grace to turn our will and the circumstances of our lives over to Your care multiple times in each day.

We know that when we do everything will be better than if we didn’t.  Amen

God sees.  God knows.  God cares.  Some of the most comforting words to bring to mind.  Let’s do that often today.
