Power Greater Than Ourselves
Great debate goes on between scientists and theologians regarding how the earth came into being.
Moses, a friend of God, recorded an account given by the creator Himself, of how the earth and human life came into existence. Some choose not to believe God’s account and look for explanations elsewhere.
The following Psalm written by King David, another friend of God, restates how God spoke and the heavens, the earth, and the oceans were formed at the command of His word.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
Psalm 33:6-11
Instead of honouring God for the beautiful earth He created for mankind to live in, some people spend enormous amounts of time studying all sorts of ideas and alternate theories of how things came to be. God’s plans and purposes are not changed by human theories. God is in charge and His plans stand forever.
Loving God, we have come to believe in You, the power greater than ourselves who is powerful, kind, good, and completely reliable.
You are the God who created the stars, the mountains, the oceans, the plants and flowers, and the creatures of land and sea, made us in Your image, and amazingly, You want us to have a wonderful life with You forever.
We’re so grateful that You are with us every day and that the purpose of Your heart is to bless us. You not only have the will but the power to do just that.
We trust in You and Your loving power today to work in our lives. We ask You to renew our thoughts, our desires, our faith, so we grow in living the amazing plan You had in mind for us when You created us in love. Amen
Many things are beyond our ability to understand or explain but I’m so glad that’s not the case for the God with whom we have a relationship today. I take great joy in the fact that in God today “we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
