Building Solid Relationships
RELATIONSHIPS
Of all the videos we post, ones on dealing with troubled relationships are often the ones most viewed.
There are always two partners in every relationship and each has a part to play in what goes well and when things go wrong. To maintain a good relationship or to build back better after a breakdown it takes willingness and hard work from both partners.
While on earth, Jesus demonstrated how to live in a loving relationship. At the heart of each day was Jesus consulting with His Father about everything He did.
But Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing alone. The Son does only what he sees the Father doing, because the Son does whatever the Father does.
John 5:19
Just like Jesus, having a loving personal relationship with God, and consulting with Him about everything we do, is the foundation for our life in relationship with God and with others.
When we experience the love and peace that our relationship with God brings, then it’s much easier for our earthly relationships to be kept strong or to be renewed and restored when they do break down.
When we do experience the frustration and heartbreak of break downs in relationship, at first glance, restoration may seem impossible. However, with God, all things are possible and that includes these precious relationships.
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
Philippians 2:1-4
Thank you Loving God for the relationship You offer to us through Jesus Christ. Thank you for His great example to us of how to live each day well. If Jesus needed regular and lengthy consultation with You each day, I’m guessing we do as well.
So today, please help us to be more conscious of Your will and Your plans for us. Help us to pause at regular times and ask You to fill our minds and hearts with the best plan.
Keep us simple and watchful, ready and willing to know and act on whatever You show us as we seek to have a meaningful relationship with You and do well in our relationships with others. Amen
