Freed From All My Fears

Wednesday September 27, 2023

So we come again to a topic that we’ve spoken about before but which is useful to consider again, I think, since we have to face fears in so many ways each day.

Today’s question is, “What would it look like if we were to live in freedom from all our fears?”

For some of us it hardly seems possible.  We have hope for something better than we are living today but to believe that we could live free from ALL our fears seems a bit like “pie in the sky.”

The wonderful reality is that God offers us an amazing life today where we can take heart, especially when we feel helpless, and experience His help in such a way that we are freed from all our fears.  Listen to these amazing words.

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. Taste and see that the Lord is good.  Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Psalm 34:4-8

How brilliant is that!!!  The experience of the person who wrote this Psalm is that God “freed me from all my fears.”

Well, this kind of things is not just for some ancient saint.  We are told that when we pray to God He answers us and delivers us too.  Day-by-day, situation-by-situation, as we encounter fear and bring it to God, it will get lifted from us.

Does God know and care that we are scared and have been pounded into a fearful place by many difficult situations?  Certainly!  Is God able to protect us until we actually feel safe and it becomes the norm in our experience?  Once again, the Bible assures us that perfect love casts out all fear.

Loving God, it’s pretty obvious that  when we call out to You in desperate times, it’s from a place where we know we need help.  As these verses suggest, we too often experience shame and desperation and trouble.  But, we trust that no matter how fearful the time or place we find ourselves in, when we invite You to be with us, You makes changes in and around us so we can experience safety and freedom from our fears.

We choose to believe You today when You say that when we look to You for help that we will have so much peace and settledness inside that our faces will be radiant with joy.  May we always be conscious that Your perfect love casts out all fear.  Amen

Well, let’s try finding out what it means to live free from all our fears.  Have a great day.
