Keep Coming Back

Friday September 1, 2023

At the end of many recovery meetings we say the words, “Keep coming back. It works if you work it.”  While it is important to do our part, we can be thankful that our life, and indeed for those in recovery, our recovery only has hope because God works on our behalf.

God, who put the sun and moon and stars in place, has perfect plans and arranges things that bring about a good and satisfying life for us.  We can hardly imagine love and commitment like that and yet that’s the way it is because that’s how God operates.

No one has ever seen or heard anything like this, never so much as imagined anything quite like it—what God has arranged for those who love him.  But you've seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you.

I Corinthians 2:9-10

God meets us where we are at and promises to take us forward into a bright future.  As the summer months come to an end and we gear up for a new fall season of events and commitments, we can experience great peace in knowing God has a great plan for us and we can know it and live into it

To envision the reality of what God is actively weaving together to bring success to our lives, we need to intentionally get to know God and His ways.

Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.  Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord.  Trust him, and he will help you.

Psalm 37:3-5a

Lord, we know that the first step in having a successful day and wonderful future is to give our will and lives over to Your care and acknowledge the fact that You are at work in our lives.  You are working all things together for good. That’s Your promise and we are going to hold onto that today.

You’ve promised us a future with hope.  We affirm again today that Your plans for us are better than we could ask for or even dream about for ourselves.

Lord, Help us to give up our own agenda for a better life and receive with thankfulness the life You have planned for us as we prepare for the fall season. We trust Your unfailing love to sustain us as we allow You to guide and direct us moment by moment and day by day.

Help us to trust you - I think that’s often the challenge for most of us - and then to take delight in You and what You are doing.  Give us hearts that understand You more and trust You when we don’t understand, but to remember that You are good, so good all the time.  Amen

Let’s keep coming back to the truth that God is working on our behalf today.  Have a great day.
