Money Issues

Thursday September 21, 2023

Well, for many months during the pandemic the politicians had money for anything and everything.

Then it was time to get back to “the real world” only there was a lot of money around that hadn’t been spent during the pandemic and lots of desire to “get back to shopping.”  Before we knew it, we had runaway inflation.

And then raises to interest rates that affect everything from mortgages to what we purchase in the grocery store.

Money doesn’t only not solve problems, it often makes more.  In fact, the Bible clearly teaches us that the love of money is the root of all evil we know.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10

Now that’s not to say that money doesn’t have its place and I’m right there with everyone else wanting to have what I need – and too often a lot of what I want as well.  However, the foundation of what makes today good is this:

And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

God is more than trustworthy to meet all our needs.  His supply goes way beyond what we need and when we open our hearts to His grace, what He pours in is exactly what the situation calls for – even if we didn’t know it before He supplied it in His way.

In fact God wants our focus to be on giving rather than looking to get.  We give first back to God in recognition that all we have comes from Him.

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

Malachi 3:10

The Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20:35

So Heavenly Father, we are grateful that we can live without the burdens of stress and worry when it comes to money because you promise to give us what we need.

It doesn’t mean we can sit back and wait for a windfall to land in our lap, but it does mean that we can trust You every single day to provide what we need in order to experience life at its best.

This is such a counter cultural message but we want to embrace it today and live in the relaxed and peaceful mindset that You so long for us to experience.

Thank You for all Your provision every day of our lives that has brought us to this day.  We are grateful.  We choose to acknowledge once again today that our source of all that is good going forward is You.  Amen

Let’s keep money in proper perspective today as we enjoy this day.
