Good Track Record

Thursday October 12, 2023

When we say that someone has a “good track record” it usually means that what they have done or achieved in the past has been helpful or successful and particularly so where it impacts something they are offering or promising to do today.

If we’re looking for someone to paint our house we want someone with a good track record.  Whenever candidates are standing for election for public office we often hear a lot about their “good track record” and why we should then trust them with our vote.

I was reading some verses about God’s “track record” and it’s impact on us.  Listen to these words:

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Colossians 1:11-14

What’s God’s track record with us?  When we were a mess, stumbling along in darkness and sin, He rescued us.  When we couldn’t get there on our own He gave us Jesus who died to forgive us our sins so we could be transferred into His Kingdom of love and light.

He didn’t just do it for decent folks who were trying hard, but He did it for crazy ones like you and I – well, I’ll speak for myself and you can decide for yourself – but people who were hell-bent on destroying the good life He so wanted us to receive and flourish in.

He did everything that was necessary so we could do what these verses remind us “share in the inheritance that belongs to his people who live in the light.”

That’s a good track record, for sure, and it’s now wonder that we are meant to be strength by it so we can have patience and endurance as God continues to work in us to complete His good plan for our lives.

Thank you so much, Loving God, for rescuing us from the kingdom of darkness and transferring us into the Kingdom of Your dear son.  Thank you Jesus for purchasing our freedom and forgiving our sins.

Would you help us to keep that thought front and center in our minds today so that whatever we face we can live well, not because of our own strength, but in Your strength that we see in Your amazingly good track record.  Amen

Well, I promise You, if we will take the time today to consider God’s track record with us and with all humans over time, we will have the most joyful day possible.
