Grow A Wise Heart

Friday October 13, 2023

How many of us got ourselves into trouble by our lack of wisdom and understanding of life and where it would lead us if we pursued a rebellious course?

We may have been hurting from unmet needs or events that happened in our past and instead of seeking help and healing we chose a defiant path of doing things our own way. Now we are attempting to turn our lives around from the chaos that resulted from such choices.

God’s Word has good advice for us in that attempt today:

Grow a wise heart—you’ll do yourself a favor; keep a clear head—you’ll find a good life.

Proverbs 19:8

A wise heart and a clear head – not a bad combination.

When we decided to give our lives over to the care of God our stubborn hard heart was removed, and we were given a soft tender heart of flesh. The Holy Spirit was given to us to guide us in the way of truth and to help us make wise choices through understanding the consequences of our words and actions.  That’s the foundation of growing a wise heart.

God promises us this when we come to Him and offer our lives to Him:

I’ll give you a new heart. I’ll put a new spirit in you. I’ll cut out your stone heart and replace it with a red-blooded, firm-muscled heart. Then you’ll obey my statutes and be careful to obey my commands. You’ll be my people! I’ll be your God!

Ezekiel 11:19-20

But it takes a wise heart connected to a clear head that brings the most encouraging results in our effort to find life today.  Jesus demonstrated this when He told us how He organized His mind and actions.

By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

John 5:30

Heavenly Father, we want to learn and grow today so we have a wise heart and a clear mind.

Help us to pay attention to what You are saying to us in Your Word today and to listen to the wise counsel of those You have brought alongside us who have walked the path before us.

Take good counsel and accept correction—that’s the way to live wisely and well. We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails.

Proverbs 19:20-21

Help us as we seek to improve our conscious contact with You, so we are able to make wise decisions about what we hear and are better equipped to further Your plan for our lives. Amen

Let’s grow a wise heart and keep a clear head today.  Have a great day.
