Keep On Asking

Wednesday October 18, 2023

People in the Bible who are our examples in praying are those who were not afraid to bring all their needs to God and to keep on asking.

They ask for God’s help because God is good.  They ask for God’s help because they know they need help.  They ask for God’s help whenever they are in trouble because they know that God will hear and answer their cry for help. They know that God has unfailing love and help for all who will simply ask for it.

And whether or not they saw visible results immediately, they kept on trusting God’s heart, God’s provision, and God’s willingness to act on their behalf.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.  Listen closely to my prayer, O Lord; hear my urgent cry.  I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me.

Psalm 86:5-7

Many of us have come to believe that God exists and that He wants to help us.  Why then do we end up struggling?  Too often the answer is more simple than we care to admit, we didn’t think to ask God for help or we asked once and then stopped asking when we didn’t see immediate results.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

God is willing to help us but we have to humbly ask for that help.  God is ready to forgive us, but we need to confess our sins and acknowledge our need for His forgiveness.  God is paying attention to us each moment of every day but if we won’t ask for help and trust His good heart to provide what we need, how can we expect to receive an answer or to even recognize it when we get it?

Loving God, forgive us for trying to take care of things on our own.  Forgive us for thinking we know how things need to be fixed better than You do so we don’t recognize Your way when You bring it into our situation.

Give us grace and humility to put ourselves into Your hands and trust Your good work in us and in our circumstances.

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

1 Peter 5:5-7

We’re so glad that You know what “the right time” is to lift us out of what we are experiencing.  We always decide that time is right now but we trust that You really do know best.

We humbly ask You now for guidance and help in all our affairs.  We are grateful that You are full of unfailing love for all who ask for Your help. Amen

Let’s us be examples in praying -- those who are not afraid to bring all their needs to God and to keep on asking.  Have a great day.
