Loved Through Difficult Times
Decades ago October 22 was a day of great rejoicing as one of my sisters got married. Just a few years ago the day took on other textures when one of my brothers died. Now when this day comes around each year it offers a choice – to let the close grief cloud out distant goodness or to remember the goodness of God through all the experiences of our life, even the most painful ones.
When problems arise it is easy to forget that God cares. We often feel alone and vulnerable. Daily life continues regardless of the heartache we are experiencing and somehow we must cope. We feel like orphans with no one to care for us. We forget God’s promise to help us and often believe He has abandoned us. However, God does not forget His beloved. We just need to call on Him and He will answer us.
The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
Psalm 91:14-15
Loving God, in difficult times, rather that running from You we want to draw closer to You and let Your unfailing love ease the pain we are feeling and help us to see the good that is so much more than the difficult.
We live in a broken world where sin and sorrow has impacted almost everyone we know. Sometimes we’ve wondered where You were when bad things happened to us. Thank You for the reminder that You are right beside us always, whether we are aware of You or not.
Every day you are making good things available to us – all that we need. Thank You for Your willingness to firmly hold us until we can stand strong and steady again.
The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you.
Deuteronomy 33:27
We don’t understand all that is going on when we are suffering, but we know that You do and that You offer us all the healing and comfort we need. Hold us close to Your heart today. Take our hand and steady us as Your unfailing love brings healing to our pain. Amen
What a perfect day to pause and reflect on all the goodness around us in spite of other challenging things.
