The Hub of The Wheel

Despite what we hear on the evening news or what might be happening in our personal lives that seems to be spinning out of our control, there’s good news for us today from our Loving Heavenly Father.

Just like the hub on a wheel brings together all the spokes and the tire that surrounds them so they work in unity, so God brings all things in our lives together. 

For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

Colossians 1:19-20

Through Christ God reconciles (brings together) EVERYTHING – the good, the bad, the ugly of today, our past, our present, and our unknown future, our successes, our failures, things we remember and what we’ve forgotten – God brings it all together how?  Through Jesus, God makes peace with us and speaks peace to what is going on.  Through Jesus shedding His blood on the cross for our sins, God washes them all away and brings us close to Himself.

No matter how ugly or broken our experience of life has been, this is our assurance today. 

This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions.  Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

Colossians 1:21-22

What do you think of that?  I mean, pretty amazingly good stuff, isn’t it?

Some of us know how ugly our actions have been.  Lots of us excuse all sorts of things God hates because we “only thought them.”  But we are told here that outside of the goodness of Jesus, we are separated from God by our evil thoughts as well as our evil actions.  We all need the peace that God offers to us in Jesus.

And so Heavenly Father, we know we all need the forgiveness You offer us through Jesus Christ so we can truly live.  We are grateful that You bring all things together in Jesus because on our own we just couldn’t do that.  Many more things fell apart than what we were able to bring together.

As we face whatever is going on in our personal lives today, would you help us to remember that Jesus to our lives is what the hub is to the spokes and the wheel. No matter what seems to just be spinning out of control to us, help us to remember Your dependable words that You are reconciling all things to Yourself and bringing peace as we place our trust in Jesus.

We offer all the “spinning bits” in our thoughts and circumstances to You today.  Bring them together in Your love.  Speak peace to our hearts and minds as we journey through it all today.  Amen

So, we can pause and take a deep breath and know that all is well with us and our world because we are held in place by our Loving God.  Let’s enjoy the experience of that today.
