WHERE IS MY FOCUS
How many of us who have given our will and our life over to the care of God have taken time to acknowledge all that we received by making that decision? At times we may focus more on what we let go of rather than on what we have received.
There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.
2 Corinthians 4:18
When driving a car, if our eyes focus on something other than the road ahead, the car will turn in the direction of our focus.
The same is true when our focus is on our former way of life. If we allow self-pity it will cloud our thinking. If we guard shameful secrets instead of bringing them to God and allowing a safe person to help us through the trauma we will struggle.
When we obsess on painful former events, we often end up stumbling back into what we just left. We need to change our thought patterns and focus on those things which build us up and encourage us to move forward with God.
Loving God, We experience pain when we have a physical injury, but the pain lessens as we go through the healing process. We want to believe the same is true for our emotional injuries.
With however much trust we find in our hearts today we invite you God to be with us. Help us today, especially where we feel vulnerable to focus on Your tender love and care for us.
Help us to submit to Your ways today, to focus on the purposeful life we have with You, and be thankful for Your love and care for us. As this verse reminds us:
Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to.
Hebrews 12:2
Now I know it’s not easy but we can replace our negative thoughts with different ones. We can change what we see from the “have not” to what we have. We can look at growth rather than what we have yet to learn. There are so many ways God wants us to focus on goodness today.
Where’s the challenge for you today? Why not take a moment right now to talk to God and refocus. I promise you that You’ll have a better day if you do.
