Every Day I Will Praise You

Every Day Praise God

Our celebration of Christmas is over and the events surrounding the birth of Jesus slowly drift into the background.

Oh sure, there are lots of “post Christmas” sales around. Between racks and racks of storage containers and even the beginnings of Valentines Day displays, Christmas is getting pushed out in favor of the next new thing.

Some familiar words from one of my favourite Psalms reminds me that our amazing God is worthy of our ongoing attention and gratitude.

I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!  No one can measure his greatness.

Psalm 145:1-3

In the middle of whatever our day looks like, let’s pause and remember the wonder of what God has done for us in giving us Jesus and is doing for us every day of our lives.  With the writer of this Psalm we long for this to be not only our daily experience but that of the generations to come.

Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.

Psalm 145:4-7

Well Heavenly Father, we know from the Christmas story that the shepherds couldn’t contain their joy after seeing the baby the angels had told them about.  They went about and told everyone.

We want to do the same.  We’ve had time to remember and rejoice in the wonder of our Saviour’s birth.  Now will you help us notice and take opportunities to tell others how great you are, and how good you are to all who seek you.

Even today, with just a word here and there or how we include Your birth in our retelling of our holiday activities, of whatever is appropriate, help us to make mention of You and how grateful we are to have a Saviour – Immanuel – God who is with us.  Amen

I hope this is a quiet week for you before the busyness of the new year kicks in.  Let’s extend the wonder of Christ’s birth into every day of this year.  Have a great day.
