God’s Ongoing Plans and Promises
As we look back over this past year and ahead to the new one, it’s good to remember that God always has plans for a wonderful life for us and has made many promises to us as we walk with Him.
When God called a people to Himself and gave them 10 commandments he also told them:
I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.
Exodus 20:6
I don’t know what God’s plan is for you and I in this upcoming year but I do know that we do have influence in God’s plan in the lives of others. Let’s pray today to be those who leave a legacy of God’s grace and truth for generations to come.
Heavenly Father, we can’t know what’s going to happen a few generations down the line let alone a thousand but we do pray today that we will be those who take care of what’s before us today and with faithfulness to You and to Your plan to bless others, to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
Tell your children about it in the years to come, and let your children tell their children. Pass the story down from generation to generation.
Joel 1:3
Help us to be faithful to share the good news of the gospel so the story of Your faithful love and goodness is passed down from generation to generation.
Help us to act with faithful love and compassion because we know that our actions are often remembered long after anything we try to teach in any other way. With the prophet Isaiah we affirm:
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.
He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.
Isaiah 61:1-3
Well, however close to the New Year you are, I pray it will begin with great joy. Happy New Year!
