Epiphany Light
Yesterday was January 6 – officially the last day of the Christmas season where we celebrate the Wise Men from the East following the light of a star until they came to the place where Jesus was. The day is called The Epiphany – a time of becoming awake and aware of something life changing.
Every day of the year is the time for us to follow Jesus, the light of the world, and then to shine the light of His goodness everywhere we go. There’s no greater epiphany than when Jesus comes to live in us and our lives are oriented toward Him each moment of each day.
Jesus spoke to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness. They will have that light. They will have life.”
John 8:12
I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.
Isaiah 49:6
0 Jesus we thank you for coming to earth to be the light and to show us the way to the Father’s heart. We are grateful that you pour your Holy Spirit into us so that we then can become a light to others. We pray Lord that we could be a light to many, even a light to the nations, that your amazing help and encouragement may reach to the ends of the earth.
You yourself said:
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden. Also people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand. Then it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do and they will bring glory to your father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16
So Lord would you help us today. We want to live in such a way that the good that you work in us and through us is visible to others but only in a way that gives glory to our Father who is in heaven. Amen
As the lyrics of the song say:
Shine Jesus shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory. Blaze Spirit blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow river flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy. Send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.
Have a wonderful Epiphany, even a day later than the official celebration, enjoying the light of Christ in Your life and world today.
