Lord Teach Us To Pray
When friends of Jesus saw Him regularly praying but didn’t know how to do it themselves they simply asked Him, “Lord teach us to pray.”
I don’t know about you but I sometimes wonder what on earth I should pray for particular people. That’s when I’m so glad we have “model prayers” in God’s Word that can serve us well. Here’s one familiar one:
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19
Heavenly Father, Phrase by phrase and line by line we need what these verses are praying out for us.
Please strengthen us with your spirit in our inner being so that we can live in that conscious presence of Jesus living in us and accompanying us throughout the day.
We want to be rooted and grounded in love. We want to know how truly wide and long and high and you’re your love for us truly is. And even though we can never really understand completely how much you are giving us of yourself, we do want to be filled with everything today that you have for us.
We make ourselves available to you. We invite you to come and live in us. We invite your guidance and control of all that we desire, think, speak, and do. We know that when you are in control things will go well in all the ways that count.
And so God along with so many people for so many years we want to give you praise because you were able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
Well, when we don’t know what to pray the best advice I can give myself and you is simply, pray. Just talk to God. Tell Him whatever is in Your heart, what’s working or not, what you long for. He’ll help you sort it all out and show You His great love in the middle of it all.
