Doing Good
Someone once said, “The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.” I like that.
There are so many opportunities around us every single day – opportunities to encourage, to lend a helping hand, to just listen and be with someone who is struggling. The list is endless.
Today we pray to recognize and use well the opportunities that this day gives us.
The famous preacher John Wesley encouraged his friends with these words and we’ve spoken about this before:
God’s Word encourages us in this as well:
So be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good.
Ephesians 5:15-16
Make the most of your chances to tell others the Good News. Be wise in all your contacts with them. Colossians 4:5
Heavenly father we thank you for another day. We thank you that you called us to today and have given us life and breath to participate meaningfully in this day. You’ve given us opportunities. We know you are with us, wanting to use us so many people are blessed and good things take place for Your kingdom’s sake and for the lifting up and the blessing of the lives of many today.
As Your word has instructed us, we pray that we would be careful to use this time well. I pray we wouldn’t just sit on the sidelines and let the days pass by but I ask that You would show us all how to be creative in the way we express love and grace and care to those who are near and those who are distant. Help us to make the most of today’s opportunities.
Lord we believe there are new opportunities, new possibilities in these days that we’ve not had before. Help us think about them and use them.
Through it all we ask Lord that we would be even more conscious of You, of Your love, of Your encouragement, of Your comfort, of Your many expressions of goodness in our lives in this day. Amen
So let’s hear the reminder again and think about ways to put it into practice today: Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
Have a wonderful day doing good.
