Gentleness - Only For The Strong

GENTLENESS – ONLY FOR THE STRONG

Strong people with a true sense of their identity are often the gentlest souls in our community.  They don’t have to pretend to have courage in loud aggressive ways because they are confident in who they are and what they believe.

They know themselves to be imperfect and so they graciously make allowances for the faults of others.  They know they are learning and growing, and they make space for others to do the same.

Here’s how the Bible shows the value of gentleness.

A gentle answer makes anger disappear, but a rough answer makes it grow. Kind words are like a life-giving tree, but lying words will crush your spirit.

Proverbs 15:1, 4

People who are secure in themselves don’t have to fight about every point.  They can agree to disagree and be pleasant about it.  They don’t have to try to build themselves up by saying one thing to a person’s face and then something else behind their backs.  They are genuine people of integrity.

Gentle people are some of the most admired by their colleagues and associates.  Far from being weak, a gentle person exhibits a huge amount of self-control and patience.

They [Leaders] must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.

Titus 3:2

God invites us to leave harshness, super-sensitivity, sarcasm, and insincerity behind, and enter a settled life of harmony with His plan – a plan that promotes gentleness in all our dealings with others.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

James 3:17

Heavenly Father, We do admire people who are both strong and gentle.  We want to become more that way ourselves.

You tell us that You have chosen us me to be holy and blameless in Your sight.  Our desire today is to grow in grace and become known as a person who is tender hearted towards others.

Help us to leave quarrelling and super-sensitivity behind.  Give us grace to focus on Your plan for us – all of us together, supporting one another.  We want to enter into a settled life that promotes gentleness in all our dealings with others.  Amen

So, are we strong enough to live as gentle folks today? God will help us if we’ll make the first choice.
