Life Stabilizing Words
In our topsy-turvy world of new information and change by the day and more often by the hour, we need to hold on to the things that are constant, that don’t change, and that will be there ongoing no matter what.
One of the ways we can do that is to affirm those things that are true when all of our emotions and even memories seem to say something else.
Jesus said: The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
John 6:63
We can take words from the Bible where God makes promises to us and make them our own. We can even tell ourselves to “listen up and receive the living truth of those words.” Here’s an example:
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
Thank You God for creating us in love and for having a wonderful plan for each of our days. You’ve told us that You don’t give us a spirit of fear and timidity, but one of power, and love, and self-discipline. That’s not always our experience but it is Your continuing offer to us. This acceptance and peace and confidence is ours for the asking today.
In this moment God, we reach out to You from this vulnerable place where we find ourselves. We reject everything that isn’t from Your loving hand and since Your word says that means fear and uncertainty aren’t from You we hold them up to You and give them over to You. Come and fill the fearful places of our heart with the peace and security of Your abiding presence. Your Word tells us:
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17
We speak this healing truth to our hearts today. We speak to our emotions and say: God is with me. God is for me. God is filling me right now with power, love and self-disciple. I make space for what God is giving and I receive His strong and powerful love until I am filled up to overflowing. Amen
So friends, I encourage us today to speak God’s life stabilizing words to ourselves and receive the peace of Christ that settles us down as often as we need to. Have a wonderful day.
