When you read the Bible for a while, some verses become personal favourites. Then there are others that are widely held in that way. Today we’ll look at some of those words that have given direction and stability and peace to so many.
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
Psalms 37:3-6 NIV
We often wonder what the right course of action is and can become confused and anxious. God has very simple instructions for us to refocus us and steady us.
Trust in the Lord and do good.
It’s not complicated and we can manage that one moment at a time even if we feel like much of the future is hazy and uncertain. And, God is not afraid to tell us how life actually works even when it runs counter to our self-centered, me-first-in-the-world thinking. If we pay attention and adjust, we will experience the best life has to offer us.
Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Amazing promise isn’t it? In what way do we need to lay down our worries or our obsessions with what we think we need to have to be successful and pause to ask ourselves if our first thought in all we do is to bring delight to God’s heart? Truth is, when we are being simple and living with this conscious focus, things will settle in our hearts and we will know contentment and joy we’d never experience otherwise.
And so, Loving God who always speaks truth to us, we pray today to commit all we do to you with trusting hearts that know You will take care of us. Help us to trust Your good and faithful heart that is turned towards us, and rest in Your great power that fills all we are and all we do when we are seeking to walk in Your ways.
We so easily pull things back into our own grasp and operate out of self-will and the pride of thinking we know best. Forgive us. We know not what we do.
We surrender or will and all of the circumstances of this day to You. We love You and we love being loved by You. Amen
Well, we may not get it perfect all day long but every effort in this direction will make this day and every day coming along infinitely better. Have a wonderful day trusting God and seeing Him work.
