 RELYING ON GOD’S PROMISES

To succeed at living well we need to rely on God’s promises.  His comforting words help us persevere through the trials and the pain that we experience.

Some of us thought that when we gave our will and life over to the care of God we would automatically be exempt from the troubles of the world.  Jesus did not tell us that, and He is the one who should know.

Jesus said:  I have told you these things, so that you can have peace because of me.  In this world you will have trouble.  But be encouraged!  I have won the battle over the world.

John 16:33

The promise Jesus makes to us here is that we can have peace because of Him no matter what’s happening around us – in fact, particularly when things are difficult around us.

How can we experience that peace in the middle of difficulty and pressure?

We remember that our position is protected because Jesus is always with us and Jesus has already won the battle.  We never have to face life’s circumstances alone and no situation we face is a surprise to God or something God can’t handle.  If God is our helper in times of trouble, why should we fear anything that might come our way?

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”  Hebrews 13:5b-6

God promises to strengthen those whose hearts are turned towards Him.  When we are in trouble, is God the first person we turn to?  Do we truly believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him?

Thank You God for the many promises You have made to us.  Sometimes our biggest prayer in the moment is just to have faith to believe that You exist and stand ready to help us.  Your promise is that this faith is all that is required to activate Your promises.

So help us today to open our hearts to You, to release our worries and troubles to You and then to receive peace as we trust Your promise to do in us and through us whatever is needed to see us overcome.  Amen

We all wish we never had to face trouble but at least today when we do, we can rely on God’s promise of help and peace.  Have a great day.
