A Bright New Way of Life

Tuesday May 28, 2024

We’ve lost our way as individuals and as societies.  That's an obvious fact.  We may be the most informed culture and have lore material available to us than people who lived at any time before us, but there’s never been more anger, more brutality, more angst and loneliness, and more confusion about who’s right, who’s wrong and what we ought to do about it all.

Who can show us the way out of the darkness of moral confusion and into the light of reliable truth?

Jesus Christ makes a bold claim when He says He is the light and if we follow Him, we won’t have to walk in darkness but will have the light that gives life.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life!” Jesus answered. “Without me, no one can go to the Father.  I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”

John 14:6, John 8:12b

Many people hold all sorts of opinions about Jesus Christ.  Was he a good man?  A good teacher?  A compassionate person?  There’s plenty of reliable history, recorded and preserved through time that tells his story.

But here’s the thing.  Jesus said He, and He alone was life and that no one could find God unless they followed him. Now either he was lying and that would call into question him being a good man and a good teacher;  Or he was delusional, and we all know it’s a recipe for disaster if a person follows someone who is delusional.  Or, Jesus was telling the truth.  There really are no other options.

Which of these 3 options are you and I choosing to base our life on today?  One of the best ways I know to find out is to ask God to show us truth and be open for an honest answer, whatever that is.

If Jesus is telling the truth and we are walking without Him living inside us, then we are wandering around in who knows what because it’s too dark to see where we need to go.

But, it we ask God to fill us with the light of His truth, the darkness in our hearts and in our circumstances must give way to the light of Christ as surely as darkness leaves a room when we flip a switch and turn on a light.

Heavenly Father, we want to live in truth that is good for all of us – truth that honours goodness and shows us evil to avoid and put safe boundaries around.

Thank you for sending Jesus to not just tell us about a way, a truth, and a way of life but to actually be that for us.  We open our hearts today to be shown the truth about Jesus and to conform how we think and act to what that truth us.

Holy Spirit, live in us today and give us the power we need to live in the true way.    We  surrender ourselves to You and choose to follow Your plan for our lives today. Amen

It’s a valid question to wonder about truth, about Jesus, about what truly makes life life.  We stay distracted and don’t often think about these important issues.  Let’s take a few moments today to give God a chance to show us truth.
