Enough Room For Me and You
I grew up in a household with 12 children. By the time the little ones were born the older ones were heading off to college but still, there were lots of people to fit into one small house. Even when my grandmother needed a place to stay for a while, she came to live with us as well.
We joke about the fact that there was one room for the girls, one for my parents, and one for the 5 little ones. The boys had bunk beds out in the back shed - and it was freezing cold in the winters. And only one bathroom - but we were grateful for it because our previous houses only came with an outhouse. Somehow it was all normal. We always had room and friends were known to sleep over by times.
I was thinking about all this and what heaven will be like with so many folks there when I read these words in the Bible. Listen to Jesus’ promise.
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
John 14:1-3, 5-6
Always enough room - always a place for those who belong. This is our great joy even during turbulent times here in Canada when there is not sufficient housing that’s affordable for individuals and families.
We will face difficulties in this life, but the perspective of eternity with God in heaven, can help us get through tough times.
Not only is a home about having space but it’s about the joy of being together and memories created together. 93 Andrew Street in Orillia Ontario is full of those kinds of memories that last a lifetime. What will it be like to make memories that last for 10000 years? It’s better than my mind can take in.
Loving God, we are so grateful that there is more to life than these few days and years that we are living on this planet. You do care about the challenges we face and help us find ways to deal with them, but You also help us by encouraging us with the hope of heaven - our eternal home that you are preparing for us.
Give us courage, we pray, to lift our eyes and see beyond our current difficulties. Help us not to get bogged down with today’s problems but to know Your companionship and help in this day, and the comfort of Your amazing promises for our future. Amen
Whatever challenges You and I face today, let’s keep them in perspective with all the other things we have enjoyed and all that is promised. Always enough for all of us when we go with God. Let’s have a great day.
