GOD’S WILL NO MATTER WHAT
When we say we have given our will and life over to the care of God, what does that mean to us? Does that mean that we’re hoping God will be good to us and give us a reasonable life as we do out best to live a good life?
Or, does it man what the Bible teaches, both by example and direction that in all our affairs we are meant to make a choice to obey God rather than self-will, even at the cost of convenience? Many of us suffer because it is often easier, in the moment, to follow self-will than to follow God’s will.
From earliest times God’s people have received this instruction from God about the Bible and our behaviour:
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do
Joshua 1:8
The Bible is full of accounts of people who prospered when they followed the ways of God even when it seemed, in the short term, to harm them rather than to help them. That will be the case for us as well.
Daniel and his friends are examples. They were young captives taken from their own land to the land of their conquerors and there they were confronted with a number of challenges to the practice of their faith in God.
Daniel made up his mind to eat and drink only what God had approved for his people to eat. And he asked the king’s chief official for permission not to eat the food and wine served in the royal palace.
Daniel 1:8
When we read the story of Daniel in the Bible, we find that God moved in miraculous ways to prosper him and his three friends even while great persecution was plotted against them.
God protected and blessed them because their minds were made up to serve God, no matter what and when they were pressured to do something contrary to the will of God, they didn’t have to think about it. The decision was already settled in their hearts.
What about us? Are our minds already made up that we will serve God regardless of what may be presented to us?
Heavenly Father, we live in a time where so many things that run contrary to Your instructions are held up as the way we should live.
Give us courage and grace today, we pray, to trust You, to become familiar with and fully committed to Your principles in everything we say and do, and to watch You to be good to Your Word to then prosper us and give us success in all we do. Amen
It’s a challenge – living God’s truth in every situation but let’s give God the chance to show Himself true to His Word today. Have a great day.
