Pure In Heart
I don’t know about you but my experience of moving from a bad attitude to a positive space often feels like I’ve had a refreshing shower. Jesus’ instructions about attitude shifts for us are just like that when we put them into practice.
Today’s instruction is:
Blessed are those whose hearts are pure. They will see God.
Matthew 5:8
One of our biggest priorities every day is to find out what’s true and anchor our lives to that.
On our own, without God, we are sick and in need of healing. We are weak, sinful, and often crazy. We need to be forgiven, cleansed, and enlightened by the truth of God’s word. If we are to live from a pure heart, we need to let the Bible be our handbook and do what it says without compromise.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
But just knowing what’s right doesn’t give us a pure heart. We need the forgiveness and cleansing only Jesus can give us. When we admit and confess our sin, and accept what Jesus has done in our place, His Holy Spirit comes to live within us. He’s the one who gives and maintains a pure heart in us for us.
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21
Loving God, We know that Your way of life and Your agenda need to become our daily priority if we are to live life from a pure heart. We need to guard what we have been given.
The evil one prowls around every moment of every day seeking to turn our hearts away from You. Help us to take time today to become conscious of Your presence and to both sort out Your will for us and fill us with the power to carry it out.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
We want our hearts to be pure today. Help me to prioritize our relationship with You and to live our day guided by Your word. Amen
“Blessed are those whose hearts are pure.” Let’s live in that wonderful space today.
