Finding Constancy in Transitions

Friday June 28, 2024

With the end of the school year it feels like we transition from one season to another.  Change can be refreshing and it can also be a bit disconcerting sometimes can’t it?  Here’s something from God’s Word that gives me great comfort today and I trust it will You as well.

I am the Alpha and the Omega says the Lord, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.

Revelation 1:8

God is the beginning and the end – as this writer has used the first and last letters of the alphabet of His time to indicate.  God is the Alpha and the Omega, the one who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.  That truth puts everything else in our lives into perspective and fills our hearts with a settledness that nothing else around us could ever do.

Here’s another description of God that carries the same kind of constancy and security for us.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8

We are thankful God, that as we go through this day that You are the God who has come close to us in Jesus Christ and that Your unfailing love displayed through Him is true and available to us today.

Where we feel distant and alone You bring us close to You and one another through Jesus.  Where we feel weak and wonder if circumstances will overwhelm us we remember that we have the same mighty power in us that raised Jesus from the dead.  We allow our hearts to be settled in this solid truth.

And then the Bible gives us a picture from creation to help us settle into God’s enduring nature:

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

Psalm 102:25-27

And so once again today God, we give You thanks that You are with us every day, that You are watching over us with great attention to every detail of our lives.  You are journeying with us, making all the power of heaven available to us to face no matter what we face.  Amen

Well, I hope these next weeks include some time for rest and relaxation and that in the middle of that we’ll take some time to reflect on God’s constant and powerful loving presence in our lives, now and forever.
