Mercy and Blessing
There are many reasons to spend time reading and thinking about God’s word every day. One of the great benefits of finding great truths in God‘s word is that we can then pray those into our lives.
May God be merciful to us and bless us, show us the light of his countenance and come to us.
Psalm 67:1
With those few simple words, we can come to God and ask for everything we need today: “O God, please be merciful to me and bless me. Show me the light of your countenance and come to me.”
In simply offering our heart in these words, we know that God will come to us with love, and particularly love we don’t deserve. We know that God will find many practical ways to bless our emotions, our actions, our interactions with others, everything that we’re working on today that’s building towards a good future.
We may not recognize all of that blessing today because God may be working below the surface in our lives, but He will definitely be working in us to bless us.
If you’ve known me for very long, you know that I love how we can turn to God and expect him to look at us with joy and acceptance, or as the words of this verse put it “the light of his countenance.” God always welcomes us to come to him. God is always available to hear us and to speak with us, and to share his heart with us. No one enjoys our presence more than the living God
When this verse talks about God coming to us, that’s how we know we can receive power and security and stability and encouragement and direction and comfort and whatever else we need because when God comes, that’s who he is and so that’s what he brings to us.
And so we simply pray again, “Loving God, be merciful to us and bless us. Please show us the light of your countenance and come to us. We welcome you. Amen.
I want to live in the light of God’s countenance all day long. I want to experience his mercy. It doesn’t even take that many words at any time in this day for me to welcome Him. Just turning my heart and desires to him and asking Him to come and be with me bring his love and grace. Let’s do that often today.
And then along with Mary, the mother of Jesus, we will be able to say:
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God, my savior; because he has looked upon his lonely handmaid. Yes, from this day forward, all generations will call me blessed, for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name and his mercy reaches age to age for those who fear him .
Luke 1:46-50
Let’s have a wonderful day living in God’s mercy and blessing.
