I thought it would be good for us today to consider the priority God gives us to give an account of ourselves to Him rather than spending time and attention passing judgment on others.
Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Romans 14:12-13
We can get so busy evaluating others and all the things they are doing wrong that we fail to observe what’s going on in our own lives. This practical reminder from God’s word gives us a moment to make an inventory of our own thinking and speaking and behaving.
We need to be focusing our attention on how we are living for God and doing what God requires of us.
The Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.
Micah 6:8
What does that look like where we are at today? If we’re not sure, have we asked God to show us? We’re often busy about many things but not so good at making God’s agenda our first priority.
What are we doing with the gifts and talents God has given us? We’re living and breathing today. We have 24 hours of time. For most of us there are lots of people around us, on our streets, on public transit, in our work environment, at stores. What are we doing to live the love of God before them? What are we doing to make Christ known to them?
All of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.
2 Corinthians 5:18
So, Heavenly Father, we want to use the opportunity of this day and the gifts and talents of our lives to live well for You today.
It is all a gift and so we certainly want to have an attitude of gratitude as we sort out what it looks like to do what is just, to show constant love and to live in humble fellowship with You and by doing that help others to become reconciled to You.
How do we do that? Help us to consult You often and allow You to guide us and empower us to do well what You had in mind for us today so when we need to give an account to You for all You’ve given us and called us to be, we’ll hear You say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Amen
God is not standing over us with a whip shouting at us to “Get to work.” He is inviting us to live our best life – one that is filled with joyfully living His purpose for us. I want to do that today, don’t you?
