Why Go To Church

Sunday June 23, 2024

Most churches are reporting significant changes in attendance at their Sunday services since the pandemic.  That’s the case even though we are now a couple of years beyond the worst of the lock-downs.

It really is a good thing to get out of our pajamas, off the couch, and find our place again in the company of others who are just like us – getting to know God and wanting to grow in their relationship with Him because they know that’s the way forward.

How do we know that’s the way?  Well, we ask God, of course.  Here’s what He tells us in His Word:

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

– Hebrews 10:24-25

And just some pretty obvious benefits to actually meeting with others:

We grow our faith by getting input from all that is going on there – and not just from what happens on the platform.

We practice gratitude as we get to know others and realize our problems aren’t the only ones in the world.

One of the biggest issues in our culture today – loneliness.  We were never designed to do life alone and church is a great place to find and nurture relationships.

Had a desire for peace in recent times?  You’ll find that as you pause in God’s presence with others.

And just this final note.  It’s good practice for what we’ll be doing in heaven.

I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”

Revelation 5:13

So Loving God, we want to obey You and be strengthened by You and do so by meeting together with other believers.  Thank you for the freedom to worship in this country.  Help us to not take that for granted and to make full use of all that’s offered to us.

We want to worship You and make You known.  Help us to do that well with others in your house today.  Amen

So, friends, whether you regularly attend church, used to attend church, or have never bothered to go to church before, today is a great opportunity to be obey the Lord, to be strengthened and encouraged – by going to church.
