Behaving With Wisdom

Friday July 12, 2024

An owl makes us think of wisdom.  We assume a person who reads a lot of books or has a few college degrees must have a lot of wisdom. We want the doctor we see to be wise and the pastor we listen to to speak with God’s wise truth.

But sometimes it the ordinary person in an ordinary situation who finds and lives great wisdom and we want to learn from one of those folks today.

Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch woman who lived during the Second World War was a wise woman.   Corrie was wise because in whatever situation she was in, Corrie determined to live for God and do His will.

She and her family helped Jewish people escape from persecution by the Nazis.  She and her family were arrested and ended up in a concentration camp.

Years later, after Corrie was released, she met one of the camp guards who was the cause of great suffering for her and her sister.  By the grace of God, Corrie demonstrated great wisdom by forgiving this man, as God's word had taught her to do.

Many of us will never face the extreme challenges that Corrie Ten Boom faced in the concentration camp. However, everyday life brings us challenges where we need God’s guidance in order to live wisely.

For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.

Proverbs 2:6-10

Loving God, thank you for your offer to live in us and guide us on a safe path.  We know that Your Holy Spirit who comes to live in us is the Spirit of Wisdom.  Thank You for the many ways the Spirits empowers and guides us as we seek to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please help us to be wise people today.  Help us to take time to meditate on Your Word, listen for Your practical direction as we pray, and receive Your clear guidance as we strive to walk in Your truth. Amen

God promises wisdom and protection as we walk with faithfulness and integrity.  Let’s do our part and watch for the ways God’s wisdom enters our heart and fills us with joy.  Have a great day.
