Praying With Others
Isn’t it wonderful that we can come to God with no words, one word, or a whole long prayer that expresses what is in our heart. God is ready and willing to hear us and to act on our behalf.
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Psalm 116:1-2
I also very much like to be informed by the prayers of others, as you know if you’ve been watching these videos for very long. We get so used to the things that are in our own minds and when we meet with others in church or read their prayers in a book somewhere, it’s so helpful to realize that God wants to work in our lives in that way we haven’t known or haven’t thought about for a while.
One of the best place to find these kinds of prayers is in the book of Psalms. Page after page give us words that we can speak back to God.
But God has inspired all sorts of people and given them words that expressed their hearts at the time but which also resonate with us where we’re at on our journey. We’ll pray some of those simple prayers today.
Loving God, Almighty and Everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us with Your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity. In all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purposes.
O God, you have taught us to keep all Your commandments by loving You and our neighbours. Grant us the grace of Your Holy Spirit that we may be devoted to You with our whole heart, and united to others with pure affection.
Holy Father, creator and sustaining wisdom of all that is, both in heaven and on earth, take from us those thoughts, actions, and objects that are hurtful. Give us instead, those things that are profitable to us.
Loving God, Lord of heaven and earth, in this day please direct, sanctify, set right, and govern our hearts and bodies, our sentiments, words, and actions, so they are in conformity with Your law and Your commandments. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus who is already praying on our behalf. Amen
Let’s be praying people all day long. Whether it is a word or two in a moment or some quiet time of sharing our hearts with God. God listens. God cares. God acts. Have a great day.
