 EVASIVENESS (HIDING)

In a world of Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook, we can sometimes wonder what is left for us to learn about people and in fact, we see things we wish we didn’t have to attach to some of them.

And so it may seem strange to say that one of the big problems for people to live well in our time is the habit of hiding or being evasive.

Too many of us only want certain things about us known.  We try to keep troubling past events buried in some deep place in our soul.  We are evasive when asked to share with others or make a moral inventory.

However, the God who created us knows all about us and wants us to be free from the bondage of whatever may be difficult or broken in our lives.

He tells us that knowing the truth will set us free – the truth about what’s wrong and the corresponding truth that, through Jesus, God has made provision for removal of all sin and shame from us.

In the past you offered the parts of your body to be slaves to your immoral and sinful thoughts. The result was that you lived only for sin. In the same way, you must now offer yourselves to be slaves to what is right. Then you will live only for God.

Romans 6:19b

Jesus offers us love and forgiveness for buried sin and shame.  When we receive all that Jesus has for us, a positive and visible change in our attitude and behaviour will occur and we can live in peace and transparency that keeps all of us safe.

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness

Lamentations 3:22-23

Loving God, facing our fears and sources of shame rather than avoiding them seems very difficult and certainly unmanageable on our own.  But, with Your forgiveness, acceptance, and affirmation of us we know we can take action that, though painful in the beginning,  brings new life and new dignity.

Forgive us for being evasive about our past actions for fear of what others might think.  Your word says that perfect love casts out all fear. Please help us experience your perfect love, so that we may move forward, unafraid, to live our best life before You and others.  Amen

That’s really God’s goal for us – that we would live our best life and that our example would encourage and support others around us.  Let’s take steps today to come out of hiding today and work with God to experience life at it’s best.
