God Remembers Us And Will Bless us

Wednesday August 7, 2024

Today we want to look at some words from someone, who it seems to me is pretty honest – not to mention desperate.  Being desperate is a moment for honesty for many of us isn’t it?

Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my plea! Answer me because you are faithful and righteous. Don’t put your servant on trial, for no one is innocent before you.

My enemy has chased me. He has knocked me to the ground and forces me to live in darkness like those in the grave. I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear.

I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done. I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain.

Psalm 143:1-6

The writer of those words is putting his faith in a righteous and faithful God, and He asks Him to listen to his cry for help. He acknowledges that God is a moral judge and asks for mercy, declaring that no one is innocent of sin before Him.

When we come to God for help, do we remember that He is gracious and compassionate, and slow to anger, and rich in love?  At times in the past, if you are like me, many of us didn’t know or didn’t believe these things about God but what we did know was that we were powerless to fix our lives.  In our despair we called out to God and asked Him to help us.

Initially when we cried out to Him, we were unsure if He heard us.  However, God is faithful to His Word and is continually searching the earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are turned toward Him.

Over and over again God has answered my prayers and those of countless others, had mercy on us, and now we can look back, as this writer did and remember so many ways God has been faithful and good to us.

Heavenly Father, we are remembering Your great works and thinking about all that You have done and continue to do for us.  It takes a bit of time to pause and reflect and call these things to mind but the more we look back, the more we see of Your goodness in our lives.

We are thankful that You are a forgiving God who is slow to anger and rich in love for all who call on Your name. Help us to do that all day long today.  Amen

Let’s not wait for desperate moments to turn to God, call out to Him, and get His good plans for our day.
