What Is God's Will For Today?

 WHAT IS GOD’S WILL FOR TODAY?

If you are someone who is trying to live for God, you might sometimes find yourself wondering ,”Well, what is God’s will for me and how can I know for sure I’m doing the right thing?

Now there are a few times where we need to know where geographically to be or what educational path or vocation to follow and so on but so much more is to simply and faithfully follow God’s daily instructions like those we read today.

Let love be without any pretense. Avoid what is evil; stick to what is good. In brotherly love let your feelings of deep affection for one another come to expression and regard others as more important than yourself. In the service of the Lord, work not half-heartedly, but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit. Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship; keep praying regularly; share with any of God’s holy people who are in need; look for opportunities to be hospitable.

Romans 12:9-13

That’s one of those great checklists to use to reflect on a day or a week or a season of our lives and ask ourselves how we are doing because everything on that list is clearly God’s will for us.

These words are asking us if we are sincere; if we are drifting close to sinful practices in our thinking or behaving;  if we are giving our best effort even when no one is looking; if we are joyful, praying regularly, persevering. Ouch! 

Anything else but patience and perseverance please!! Are we just living our own lives or are we actively looking beyond our own known circle of friends and loved ones and looking for opportunities to be generous?

I don’t know about you but time seems to fly and some things I thought took place a few weeks ago were actually months or more. We need to be careful and clear with ourselves as we see how we are meant to apply God’s Word to our daily living.

And so, Loving God, please help us to be loving without a hidden agenda. Help us to intentionally avoid what is evil and stick to what is good. Show us what it means to love others with deep affection and to regard others as more important than ourselves.

Help us to not just do enough to get by and earn a pay check but to put our whole heart into our work, to be conscientious and to have an eager spirit.

When times are tough and struggles are close, give us grace so we can be joyful in hope, and persevering in hardship.  We get so easily distracted and need You to help us to keep praying regularly.

We know we are prone to self-centeredness so nudge us again today to share with others who are in need and truly to look for opportunities to be hospitable. I know we won’t have to look far to see how to do that.

Thank you for clear instructions and the power of Your Spirit living in us to faithfully carry them out. Amen
