Praying Together

Sunday September 15, 2024

Across the earth today, people are gathering, some in grand cathedrals, some in mud huts, some openly and some secretly.  Some are meeting on beaches.  Others are waiting for the cover of darkness to quietly find others of like mind to pray with.  Some are housebound and so are maybe tuning in to church on the radio, the TV, or the internet.

Wherever and however people are meeting for church today, there is one reason and only one reason – to remember and celebrate that there is one God who loves us and who has made a way, through His Son, Jesus Christ, for us to live in relationship with Him that gives us life.

We gather to sing and pray together.  We expect to hear teaching from someone who has prayed and studied God’s Word this week and who wants to teach people to know and follow God with all their heart.

Here’s a great description of that from the early church:

There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.  He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.

This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.

1 Timothy 2:5-7

On this day, Loving God, we are very grateful to know that You are God and that You are offering relationship to us.  Thank you for freedom to worship for those of us who have it and we pray courage and protection for those who must meet in secret or be persecuted.

Bless all pastors and teachers and give them grace and wisdom to teach with authority and with wisdom so we can all grow closer to you today.

And with an anonymous Christian we also pray: At our lowest You are our hope.  At our darkest You are our light.  At our weakest You are our strength.  We’re lost, You are our guide.  When we’re afraid, You are our peace.  When we’re overwhelmed, You are our comfort.  Thank you for your unending love and faithfulness.  We trust in Your plans and lean on Your promises.  Amen

Let’s take the opportunity we have today to celebrate God’s love and faithfulness to us and learn how to walk well with Him and make His love known to others.
