Studying To Stay Secure
Success in life results from giving priority to learning and obeying God’s word. When we learn what God’s will for our life is, and do it, life will go well for us.
We’re looking these days at verses from God’s book of wisdom, the Bible, and from Psalm 119 the longest chapter in the Bible which describes the many blessings that come from following God’s instructions.
Today we are given an important question to consider and also a great answer to the question.
How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:9-11
How can we stay pure – young, old, or any age in between – by obeying God’s Word. It’s not a complicated answer, just challenging for us in our self-will and selfish ways to continue to make the choices to put God’s word into practice at every turn.
New seasons and things like new school years bring new schedules, new responsibilities and new ideas that sometimes can seem to fill our brains until we feel like we might burst. What information is actually necessary to retain to secure success in life from day to day? How do we keep that information front and center in our thoughts?
Here's a simple plan to help us know and put God’s Word into practice in our lives.
First, we just have to read and get to know God’s word as recorded in the Bible. Pick a time and maybe even a place in your home and head there every day. If it’s hard to concentrate when you read, read out loud or have one of the many readers on Bible apps on your phone read it to you.
Secondly, more clarity will come as we study and reflect on the words we read, maybe even journaling to gather our thoughts.
But thirdly, the most effective learning comes when we put God’s words and directions into practice. When we do, we find out that God’s ways are good. They prove to be true. They are unfailing, and they bring about the life of purity and joy we’ve been seeking.
Loving God, we tend to fall back into our old self-directed ways unless we regularly and prayerfully get to know Your instructions and then ask You to give us the strength and courage to not wander from them. Help us today to hide your Word in our hearts so we don’t sin against You.
Help us to take time today to study your commandments and reflect on your ways. As we go about the activities of our day, help us to remember Your word and to continue to put Your principles into practice. Amen
Okay, successful living according to God today: put God’s Word into our hearts and minds and put it into practice. One day at a time it’s the recipe for success.
