Travelling Safely
TRAVELLING SAFELY
Life with God in the complicated world we find ourselves in is like a journey in an unknown land. We don’t know the road. We don’t know the rules and the customs of the area. We’re not sure what’s expected of us and we don’t understand why some people respond as they do. We are travelers who need a map and a helpful voice on the GPS device giving us directions one turn at a time. If we seek Him, God through His word, will be both our map and our navigation system.
Whether it is Google Maps or Waze or Apple Maps it’s so helpful to be able to plug in a destination and have it sort out the quickest route from our present location. When we hit the “start” button we get audible instructions, a written instruction at the top of the screen, and a little blue line with a car on it to show us if we are staying on course. And if we miss a turn, it will even reroute us and get us back on track.
That’s the wonderful way God’s Word works in our lives as well.
Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me! I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations.
Psalm 119:17-20
No set of navigation instructions are of much use to us unless we follow them. And the best part is that when we know we are on the right road we can relax and look around and experience joy and pleasure in what is going on. This is exactly what happens as we begin to believe and put into practice what God says and then find that He is faithful to all that He has promised.
He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.
Psalm 35:9-10
Sometimes what the map tells us makes sense and at other times it seems to go again our natural thoughts. At those times it’s important to adjust our thinking to the new information or we’ll soon get lost and trouble can easily overtake us.
Loving God, Even though our journey in doing life with You seems to have some twists and turns in the road, it’s a wonderful experience to hear Your voice just like a GPS voice, telling us how to go forward, and even to turn around and correct our course so we can safely get to our chosen destination.
Help us to pay attention to Your word and follow Your directions so we can safely travel today in this new life with You. Amen
So, today, we don’t need to be Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz who was following the yellow brick road, nor travelers following the little blue line on our navigation apps to stay on track, so long as we remain people who follow God’s directions. That’ll keep us safely on course.
