Making Things Right

Friday October 25, 2024

In the long version of the Serenity Prayer we find these words: Trusting that You will make all things right as I surrender to Your will so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

All things right – now that’s a pretty bold hope and a pretty big ask of God, wouldn’t You say?  And yet that’s exactly what God promises us with these words:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

 Proverbs 3:5-6

Who can we trust?  Who's reliable?  Who tells the truth?  Who has the strength and the ability to

carry out the things they promise us?  These are the questions we all wrestle with in on a regular

basis. That’s why these familiar words are exactly what we need to remind ourselves every day.

God has a plan for our lives as individuals and societies.  He wants to give us hope and a future.  Our own plans haven’t done much for us in the past and the smartest thinkers on the planet so often have to acknowledge that they’ve come to the limits of their understanding.

And, even though everything will not instantly be the way we would like it to be, when we bring ourselves and our needs to God, God assures us that we will be enriched by His goodness each step of the journey and He will keep us right – or as the verse says, “on the straight path.

Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Psalm 37:3-4

Lord, thank You for being a reliable source of truth and  for your willingness and faithfulness to communicate with us until we get things right.

It’s time, and so beyond time, to surrender to Your will and trust in Your promise to give us hope and a future. You will make things right in such a way that we will know safety and we will be delighted with all the things we experience from You that we have desired. Amen

Well, I pray that we will stay safe and healthy today and enjoy all the good things God is putting on our path today – even though some of them might be surprising.

Let’s have a great day trusting God’s good plan today so we experience that all things are right.
