I read these words today and have been thinking about them as I moved through my day:
Jesus said: Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.
John 12:36
Jesus was telling His followers that they would have Him physically with them for only a while longer and should take advantage of learning and receiving all they could during that time.
Jesus knew that the time was coming when He was going to go back to heaven and responsibility for shining light in dark places was going to rest with these folks.
They would be the ones to speak truth and live truth in such a way that others would see and long for the life they saw in those Jesus followers.
Nothing has changed from them until now. God invites us to start our day or pause at any point in our day to spend time with Him and to let His presence, wisdom, and compassion fill us up so we can live the rest of the day better.
If we don’t give visible witness to how Jesus makes a difference in someone’s life, who will? If we don’t shine light in a dark place, how will those who are living in that darkness ever see light?
How brightly is our light shining today? Can others see Jesus in our actions, hear His heart in our words?
Clearly there will be things that go on around us that will challenge God’s way of thinking and behaving – otherwise there would be no darkness to challenge would there.
But equally clearly is the importance of us, Jesus’ followers in our time, to be sons and daughter of light and as clearly as the moon reflects the light of the sun, so we reflect the light and beauty of God for others.
Heavenly Father, You have called us to Yourself to live in the light as You are in the light. We’re so grateful that You came to us in our darkness and showed up Your beautiful living way.
Now today, help us to grow strong in our witness to Your light, particularly when times around us are dark. Amen
I want to leave us with these encouraging words about walking in God’s light:
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 1:7
Let’s walk in that light today. Have a great day.
